Your Dosha

Learn about your unique constitution

The word “dosha” refers to three different mind-body types (constitutions) found in Traditional Indian Medicine which is called Ayurveda.

Ayurveda dates back before the advent of Chinese Medicine, and attains health through a dynamic state of balance between mind, body and environment. Ayurveda is often referred to as the “sister-science” to yoga and utilises a combination of herbs, lifestyle and yoga practices to support the mind-body-energy balance.

The three doshas in Ayurveda are: Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

These constitutions express themselves in a unique way within each of us, resulting in a unique blend of physical, emotional and mental attributes. We all have a little of each dosha in us, however, we each have a dominant dosha or a combination of two doshas. Very rarely will someone have an equal amount of all three. So for example, you may be Vata-Pitta or Kapha-Vata etc.

What does this mean for you?

There are various practices and ways of living that support each dosha and optimal wellbeing. Once we get to know our dosha we can tune into what it is that we truly need in any given moment to support our vitality. It can help you maintain balance through change of seasons or challenging times, for lasting health and peace of mind.
